ELEKTER / PUBLIC API V1

Data you can build with.

A small public read-only API for the same data you see on Elekter. No account, key or payment. A non-commercial research project.

Six useful starting points

GETResponsePoll interval
/api/public/v1/estonia/grid-flow
elekter-grid-flow/1
Hourly qualitative grid reconstruction, source shares and provenance. hour=UTC interval start for exact replay. view=overview selects a common snapshot within 24 h with ≥80% source coverage. Snapshots over 6 h old use selection_basis=last_complete_snapshot; otherwise, when no qualifying snapshot remains, returns latest distribution.15 min
/api/public/v1/estonia/plants?lat=58.38&lon=26.73
elekter-estonia-plants/2
Modelled regional electricity sources. hour=UTC interval start requests sources at the map’s exact hour; missing hours never substitute another snapshot.15 min
/api/public/v1/estonia
elekter-public-estonia/1
Published 15-minute prices, today and tomorrow, source status.5 min
/api/public/v1/estonia/mix
elekter-estonia-mix/1
Measured Estonian generation mix and modelled domestic carbon intensity. Measurements over 3 h old are delayed; those over 24 h old are unavailable.5 min
/api/public/v1/estonia/solar-point?lat=58.38&lon=26.73
elekter-solar-point/1
A location’s irradiance and temperature forecast through Puhub. Example: Tartu.15 min
/api/public/v1/estonia/skill
elekter-skill-record/1
Public forecast verification: sample, baseline, status and results.1 h

These are suggested minimum polling intervals, not promises of source updates. Cache responses and inspect the source timestamp.

Read the context with the numbers

  • Prices are EUR/MWh or cents/kWh: 100 EUR/MWh = 10 cents/kWh. This is the exchange price before taxes, network fees and margins.
  • Timestamps are UTC. Market days follow Europe/Tallinn: daylight-saving transitions do not necessarily have 96 quarter-hours.
  • A null price means missing data; numeric 0 is a real zero price. Tomorrow’s not_published status is not a forecast.
  • solar-point returns irradiance in W/m², not panel power. end_utc marks the end of the preceding hourly mean. Puhub supplies the nearest forecast grid cell; coordinates are rounded to two decimals upstream.
  • CO₂ describes modelled lifecycle intensity of domestic Estonian generation. It is not an import-weighted consumption figure or avoided emissions.
  • In the skill record, check live_accuracy_published and each entry’s status. An early small-sample result is not established accuracy.

Original sources

A small browser example

const response = await fetch('https://elekter.pages.dev/api/public/v1/estonia');
if (!response.ok) throw new Error('Electricity data unavailable');
const data = await response.json();
if (data.schema_version !== 'elekter-public-estonia/1') {
  throw new Error('Unsupported schema');
}
const price = data.components.price;
console.log('Source status:', price.status, price.retrieved_at);
for (const day of price.days ?? []) {
  for (const point of day.points) {
    if (point.eur_per_mwh !== null) {
      console.log(point.start_utc, point.eur_per_mwh, 'EUR/MWh');
    }
  }
}

GET and OPTIONS support cross-origin browser requests. Honor Cache-Control. A 400 indicates an invalid location, 405 an unsupported method, and 503 an unavailable or rejected source. Bound retries and use increasing backoff.

Use and attribution

The API is available for personal experimentation and research, without a service-level guarantee. Public access does not grant unrestricted rights to resell or redistribute underlying data. Commercial use requires a separate review of source terms; we do not currently offer a commercial API service.

Credit Elekter and retain provenance: Elering market data, ENTSO-E generation through Wattography, and Puhub weather processing with MET Norway data. Avoid bulk archive scraping and do not rely on this research interface for critical control systems.
